Long time no see, LJ [03 Oct 2005|10:36am]
Wee~ I'd almost forgotten about this thing. Hello to people who still have me on their friends lists!

Things I did this weekend:
*Began playing in my first ever D&D game (I am a Fire Genasai sorcereress who dresses like a medieval drag queen o.0)
*Saw Serenity (OMGZ!!! /faint)
*Bought dice & a gaming book from the game store + a birthday present for a friend
*Got horribly horribly sick
*Saw a couple old friends at Winco but was so out of it from my cold that I didn't realize it was them until we were all the way at the dairy section, never saw them at the later aisles so I assume they left >.>
*Played FFXI and Nintendogs

Fun fun! Most likely taking the next 2 days off from work to recouperate.. I am mega sickly ; ;

Hope everyone is doing dandy~

Head cold.. can't hear anything, can barely talk, completely out of it from my cold meds, 4th of July, but does that matter to Cingular? NO.

I am here at work, with a queue of 25 or so calls and I cannot call out without basically just quitting, thanks to our lovely system here. Looking through want ads at craigslist.org.. unfortunately, apparently $9/hour is the standard wage around the Portland area at the moment. Not enough to even cover my half of bills. Someone shoot me now.

One good thing about Valentine's day:

There was some guy in Portland with a big homemade sign that said "Love Yourself" that he was holding up while eating a hot dog. He wasn't shouting or asking for change or anything, just spreading a little love to everyone.

Wierdest thing I saw:

Some guy on the MAX had a GIANT clear plastic trash bag full of all kinds of heart shaped boxes of chocolates. Not sure wtf that was all about. He dragged it off the MAX at Pioneer Square and started hauling it down the street.

Most annoying thing:

Listening to EVERYONE at work go on about all their plans for Valentine's day & how freaking romantic their spouses/sign. others are all the time, then being asked what *I* was doing for Valentine's day/what my bf got me, then after saying 'nothing and nothing', getting 'commiserated' with by the woman who's been married for 27 years who says her husband doesn't appreciate her and don't men just suck?

-_- Why can't people just leave me alone on these holidays and stop trying to make me feel better/worse (depending on how you look at it) about myself and my love life??

First off... [07 Feb 2005|01:33pm]
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM!!

That being said...

Couldn't sleep after only 5 hours of sleep so I did the only natural thing and submitted my taxes. Getting a nice big refund from the Federal government and a not so big refund from my state, which will probably all go towards that tax fiasco from two years ago (which I *still* cannot figure out..). Hopefully this will be the *last* time my state refund has to go to pay off taxes.

My cleaning spree went well. By the end of the night I was tired but in a good "woah I just did a ton of work" way. I am especially proud of my work on the toaster oven. :D

Reactivated my FFXI Content IDs and logged in to gain a few levels this morning, only to find that even though I am a bard, with awesome gear & a fully levelled sub job, I still can't get a party after 40 minutes of waiting.

This drives me CRAZY. I hate that your level advancement is determined by how many other people are playing at the same time as you. With the new MMORPGs released (WoW & EQ2), Square NEEDS to balance out its characters & create feasable soloing areas, or at the very least areas that can be soloed with groups of three. Less people = less of every job type = less groups = a bigger waste of money for me.

This last week that I've been unable to play, I honestly didn't even miss it. Sure, I'd love to get my character to uberness and 'finish' the game, but at this point, I dunno if its worth it. The ironic little message at the start of the game says Square doesn't want you to sacrifice your job, friends, family, or outside social life to play their game but guess what? That's the only way you can advance in it!!

/rant

Meh, I already paid for the month of February, so if I continue to remain unimpressed I'll simply permanently delete my content IDs at that time, and get my RP fix through other means.

.... o.0 [06 Feb 2005|07:35am]
DURANGO, Colorado (AP) -- Two teenage girls who surprised their neighbors with homemade cookies late one night were ordered to pay nearly $900 in medical bills for a woman who says she was so startled that she had to go to the hospital.

Full story: http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/02/04/costly.cookies.ap/index.html

WTF? It is a sad state of affairs when cranky bitch neighbors think they can actually sue for shit like this. I really hope those girls don't take one beyotch's insanity to heart. It's bad enough having someone trash on your good intentions, you don't need to be getting sued before you're a legal adult for that kind of stuff.

It kind of reminds me of back when I was 10 & had just learned what May Day was all about. My little brother and I picked a ton of flowers from our yard and went around door to door in the neighborhood giving them to people yelling "HAPPY MAY DAY!"

We went to this one old lady's house and she refused to open the door. She just said "I don't want to buy anything! Go away!" so we left them on her doorstep. I guess in this day and age she would have sued us for littering on her property or something. -_-

[ mood | determined ]

My new compy arrived!!

Spent all my free time yesterday setting it up and making it all spifarific. It's so~~ nice having a running machine again.

Today I've been cleaning like a madwoman. And not that half assed, take out a bag of garbage and wipe off the counters kind of cleaning that we usually do. Ohhh no. I spent 30 minutes cleaning the WINDOWS. This is what I like to call The Great Purge of Penguinshold.

It is epic. People will write stories about it, with gods involved. Hmm

Perhaps I'll write that myself.

Cheerio!

P.S. Kage Baker is still an amazing author, as evidenced by her new book. *dreamy sigh*

update update update!! [26 Jan 2005|04:10pm]
I know you've all missed me. ^.^

I'm going to wait to revamp my LJ & change all my stuff around until *after* my new PC arrives. It's scheduled to get out here the middle of February. *Why* it takes IBM so freaking long to ship out a pre-made PC, I dunno, but it's free shipping and a really good price, so I can't complain (much).

I have been a complete workaholic this month, doing massive amounts of overtime, and I can honestly say that I love my job. L-0-V-E. ^^ Payment Fraud is where I was meant to be.

Other than lots of working and no time for a real social life.. I've been playing some games in the few spare hours I've had between sleep, commuting, and work. FFXI has been relegated to a weekend game, which is just fine with me. It makes it more fun that way. :) Mostly I've been playing KOTOR. I finished KOTOR II and now I'm playing through the 1st one. There's a load of differences between the two, but I'm still not sure which one I like the best. Yes, KOTOR II is tainted by the fact that they threw it out on the market only 53% finished, so there's a ton of storylines and side quests missing, but on the other hand, I like the *potential* the characters had more. I guess they fuel my imagination more? Hmm..

I'm getting my 1st mobile phone ever tonight, which will be odd, and cool at the same time. It's a 'perk' that comes from working @ Cingular. On one hand, I've never held much interest in ever owning a mobile phone. They cost more than my cable modem per month, are tiny and easy to lose, and you have to deal with minute packages and heavy overage fees. Plus, I don't use the phone much when I'm home.. why would I need *another* phone to not talk on?

But.. this is free and the minute plan is unlimited and free, so you can't really argue with that. I suppose they do have their benefits, like I'll never have to pay 50 cents to use a grungy poorly maintained payphone again..

Hope all are doing well.. more later.

Ok here's a real update [30 Dec 2004|10:40am]
So, on the main news page at work, I just read that heavy storms have been hitting the West Coast as well (the cool storms always seem to forget Oregon and Washington ; ;), and get this - a TORNADO hit LOS ANGELES. WTF??? L.A. doesn't get tornados!! I guess California's also had about 12 inches of rain so far, and the storms don't show any signs of stopping. This is just.. well, wierd.

So, I've made it at work - I've become an actual 'regular' employee and not just a temp, so now I get all kinds of swank bennies and even a cool mobile phone! I dunno what I'm going to do with it really.. I've never had a cell phone before, and were it not for the fact that this one is free, I don't think I ever would have gotten one. But.. it's kinda neat. I'll be able to get a hold of people when I'm out on my own and I really wanna have coffee with someone.. and it'll be handy for two-car road trips.

Speaking of road trips.. I'm going back to Victoria!! Tom & I are planning a joint birthday trip - I don't want to say any more for fear of jinxing it though. It seems every time I talk about planning a trip, something happens to ruin the plans. So this time - you all don't get to know until we're back!

Had a really strange dream last night.. it was my sister's wedding.. (she's like 16 so I think this was one of those 'in the future' dreams...) it was all dark out, except for christmas lights strung around outside.. and suddenly all the guests were these shadowy sillhouettes at their respective tables.. they were all quiet, apathetic. My sister (I'll use her screen name Mystic), was dissapointed that no one seemed interested at all in the celebration, so I tried to cheer her up with fireworks. I lit an orange sparkly fountain then realized too late that suddenly the whole celebration was taking place indoors in my apartment, only it had somehow morphed to hold the 50-some people that were there.

Anyway.. we ducked to avoid the little flamey bits shooting off of it, and I was hoping that it wasn't going to burn down my apartment. Then I looked up and realized the firework bits weren't burning anything, even when they landed in our hair. They were orange with fire, but cool to the touch. We stood up and looked around.. the fireworks I lit were still going off but everyone was still asleep or bored or whatever. My mom was there with us but she didn't seem to mind any of it..

And thus ends my update. I am SO looking forward to the 7th (payday!!). ^.^

-_- [19 Nov 2004|07:10pm]
A day of small annoyances..

first, I was nearly late picking up my check (they have to be picked up by 4pm or they're dropped off in the mail). Then, while I was there I was going to fill out the forms to get taken *off* the retarded health care plan ($20 a week - you can visit a doctor but medical treatment BY the doctor isn't covered. wtf??), which they couldn't find. This led to me waiting around for a good 20 minutes, which meant I had to dash up to the bank to deposit my checks. It also meant I barely had enough time to grab some food to-go for breakfast/lunch to scarf down while I logged in to my phone for the day.

On top of that.. everyone's being REALLY loud today, resulting in a headache, there's no coffee in the breakroom except for some lukewarm decaf (retch), and the damned vending machine ate my 65 cents!! I want my goddamned chocolate bar, machine! I haven't had chocolate in like 2 weeks and I've been craving it soo badly.

I... just don't know [03 Nov 2004|03:06pm]
Like pretty much well, ALL of you on my friends list, I voted for Kerry. Not necessarily because I wanted him for president, or even that I liked him, but because 4 more years of Bush just sounded like insanity. I have no idea how to feel right now.

On one hand, I feel terribly dissapointed in humanity. Yes, it was a close race, so I can't say the entire US sucks, nice & convenient as that would be, but still. The House, the Senate, and the President are all f-ing Republican. If we don't get blown up by some pissed off nation (or a coalition of many), something else terrible will happen, that's just how things work with Them.

But on the other hand.. what did anyone expect? Sure Kerry had both coasts, but the entire middle of the country - the biggest portion of it - was all Bush. And at least here on the west coast, we tend to try to ignore the Heartland and the deep south, joking about them in passing as some kind of semi-retarded cousin that we don't like to mention much. Well, they had the last laugh this time around didn't they?

Ok I'm rambling so I'll move on. The Presidency wasn't even that much of an issue to me. Regardless of who won, things wouldn't change THAT much because we still have state's rights.. right? So I was mostly worried about the big measures that would be passing or failing in Oregon. And damnit. Measure 36 passed, which just left me shocked. Completely shocked. How could so many people be completely oblivious to other people's rights? How could anyone concienciously stand there, ballot in hand, and say "I'll vote Yes on this measure, because I like segregating my fellow Americans." It's disgusting. But it happened. And it happened in other states too. Honestly, I don't see how this made the ballot at all. It shouldn't have been an issue. While we're at it, why not take away women's right to vote and change the bathrooms to blacks and whites? That's fine too, right? -_-

Nevermind. Those would actually probably pass. >_<

The most depressing thing is, no other nation is going to be any better. Any way you look at it, it seems the intelligent, compassionate American is screwed.

Of all the unholy things... [15 Oct 2004|05:05pm]
Some total WENCH has taken my much-used online screen name, Ms.Communication (yes she knows me, and yes, she's seen me use that name many times), and furthermore is calmly espousing the stereotypical male-bashing TRIPE that I, as the original Ms. Communication, fought so hard against.

GODDAMNIT is nothing SACRED?

Oh boy.. the Presidential Debate is in town..! [13 Oct 2004|03:42pm]
You know what that means to me? It means I can't freaking walk 2 blocks from the Max stop to my bus stop to get to work without being hounded by a billion freaking political activists trying to get me to join up with their cause.

"Do you want to volunteer for the John Kerry election campaign?"
"No."

"Support No on

"Want a pamphlet?"
"NO NO NO!"

I swear.. I was stopped by no less than 10 people (no exaggeration) in TWO BLOCKS around Pioneer Square and asked to donate money, take some flier, take a sticker, whatever. And the sidewalks were PACKED with people just *standing there* doing NOTHING but talking on their freaking mobile phones, and of course there were cops everywhere looking about ready to taser the next person who looked at them funny, and it took me forever to get to my bus.

-_-

If I get out of work at 9pm tonight and find that the crowd situation is more or less exactly the same, if not worse, I will be SO FREAKING MAD.

Pre-Work Update [05 Oct 2004|04:10pm]
Got my voter registration card in the mail today.. it's kind of odd really. I've never voted before. This should be interesting. ^^

Practiced some katakana and hiragana characters on the way to work - it's really kinda neat. I've always loved foreign languages.. for some reason Japanese reminds me of Sumerian. Probably the basis in pictographs, I'd imagine. Both are fun to write, and I've figured out how to spell "Niami" hehe.

Too bad I don't have a japanese/english keyboard for FFXI. I could try to communicate in hiragana lol. At this stage, I'd probably say something like "Cow moon house quidfjkd?" or something equally unintelligable. Well, I'll get better in time hehe.

Straightened everything out with U.S. Bank (finally), so that's a relief. Still have phone and power bills to pay.. but get this, I tried to call to make a pymt to the power company, and they will only take one if I pay $4 bucks over the phone. o_0 I'll just have to pay tomorrow at a paystation or something. I swear, it seems the more technology becomes convenient, the harder it is to use without paying extra. Old ways are the best in some cases, I suppose.

I'm behind on ALL my writing, and I'm feeling especially bad about my lack of contribution to an on-going storyline with my friend Myna. Maybe I'll get a chance to write some tonight between calls.

Ah well, adios.

-_- [30 Sep 2004|07:08pm]
My temp. agency got back to me about last Friday's paycheck.

Apparently it was lost in an 'interoffice mail issue' and was mailed out recently. They were happy to report that I should get it either tomorrow or Saturday. >_<

Gah!!

On top of that, my U.S. Bank acount is now negative $250.39 for that freaking mix up on THEIR END that they have yet to fix. Now I have to find time to go in there PERSONALLY to close my account and demand they reverse the charges, since they can't be bothered to talk with me over the phone. Ever.

I think I am somehow cursed financially. I have yet to have anything involving money go my way. Ironic considering the Capricorn star sign is supposed to be one of the best with money, being all goat-like and all. Shows what the fawking stars know.
